Inspiration

2011 was a wonderful year for Island Pixie! This little guy is the inspiration for my BabyKin line of all natural baby care products. On Mother's Day, my very own little Pixie (all grown up and married now) announced she was pregnant with our first grandchild! The very best Mother's Day ever! I had thought back of when Tori was a baby and how extremely sensitive her skin was; which led me to start researching baby care products. I was appalled to find out all the chemicals and lab-based fragrances that commercial manufaturers put in their baby washes, lotions and diaper creams! Even the products that claim to be 'natural' or 'sensitive' contain preservatives and other chemicals that are required by the FDA for large manufacturing plants. The new parents wanted to be as 'green' as possible; they are using primarily cloth diapers and wanted natural baby care products also.  I immediately started working on formulas for all natural baby care products. It was a long process to come up with the final products, but well worth it! Here is a run down of the products:

BabyKin Soaps

Best way to wash newborns! Super gentle & mild pure glycerin soap - no detergent, no phthalates, no Sodium lauryl sulfate, no color, no scent. Soap tucked in it's own little pouch makes it easy for Mommy to wash with one hand! Set comes with pouch & three (3) soaps. Pouch comes in pink, blue or neutral. Pouches will vary in size & shape as they are handmade.

                                                                    BabyKin Wash

BabyKin Wash can be used on babies or on people who are highly sensitive to many shampoos on the market. BabyKin liquid wash base contains no detergents or synthetic foaming agents, no SLS (Sodium lauryl sulfate) & no phthalates. All vegetable-based natural ingredients super gentle for baby's skin & hair. Anyone can have an allergic reaction to even natural ingredients, so if irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately. This homemade baby was will not look or feel like commercial shampoo; it will be a thinner consistency and will not be as sudsy. Available in Unscented, Baby Breath or Lullaby scents.

                                                                    BabyKin Lotion

BabyKin can be used on babies or on people who are highly sensitive to many lotions on the market. BabyKin lotion is thinner in consistency than Island Pixie's body lotion as baby's tender skin does not need as much emollients. This lotion absorbs completely and will not leave baby slippery or sticky. Made with vegetable oils, fatty acids(Organic compound that is an important component of vegetation, including the fats, oils, waxes, that are insoluble in water ) mineral oil & vegetable glycerin. No SLS (Sodium lauryl sulfate), no phthalates. Anyone can have an allergic reaction to even natural ingredients, so if irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately Available in Unscented, Baby Breath or Lullaby scents.

                                                                    BabyKin Butt Balm

Homemade with only the finest ingredients: Sweet Almond Oil, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Virgin Coconut Oil, Beeswax, Lavender & Chamomile Essential Oils, Tea Tree Oil, Calendula Extract. NO cornstarch which bacteria loves to feed on, NO zinc oxide which is an inorganic chemical compound. Thinner consistency than most commercial diaper creams, but a little goes a long way! Soothes and protects precious little bums!

                                                                    BabyKin Butt Wipes

Pure & natural wipes for diaper changing or just clean-up! 12 cotton flannel wipes in a convenient case or 16 oz. of just the solution for use with your own wipes. Available in 2 formulas:

MOISTURIZE: purified water with Almond Oil to restore moisture balance to the skin to combat itching & inflammation and BabyKin Wash to cleanse

PROTECT: purified water with Witch Hazel which has soothing & anti-bacterial properties and Rose Water which balances the skins natural PH levels and can safeguard against bacterial formation

                                                           Flannel Wipes

Need more wipes? 100% cotton flannel wipes for use with BabyKin Butt Wipe solution. Basic rectangles - finished edges - nothing fancy - after all, it's for wiping little bums! Comes in a pack of 12

The formulas were tricky, but the name was easy!!! You see, our daughter's married name is Kin and as we did not know the baby's gender until birth, he was lovingly referred to as BabyKin! Of course, he will always be our little "PumpKin", "MunchKin", etc.

Hello everyone! Whether you have found your way on purpose or by chance, welcome! Now that I have been notified of being laid off from my position with the state, I will be devoting more time & effort to continuing to learn all I can about natural body & skin care. Those who know me will understand as I strive to make my soaps, lotions and baby care products with only the finest natural ingredients. I will use this blog to share some of the unique properties and benefits of the ingredients I have chosen to incorporate into my products. The reasons behind creating many of my products will be explained also.
